Flintham Hall opens its impressive gardens for Macmillan charity national fund raiser

The impressive gardens at Flintham Hall are to be open to the public as part of the National Open Garden scheme.

The gardens are set in the Nottinghamshire grounds of the Grade 1 listed building and its renowned conservatory inspired by the Crystal Palace.

The Hall is a mixture of Georgian and Victorian architecture and the site can be dated to the Mediaeval period.

It was recently used as a main location for the film “Hedda”.

Many months of preparation have gone into making the gardens perfect for the open day.

Head gardener Phil Preston said:

“The garden is a personal expression of several generations of the same family – the Hildyards.

“It has a west border with mature wisterias currently in full flower.

“The walled garden is brimming with fruit trees and roses.

“The laburnum and cherry trees in The Aviary are also in full bloom.

“And there is The Long Walk through a small mature arboretum.

“It has stunning views across parkland and the lake.

“A team of gardeners – in particular, Keith Oliver- have produced what we hope visitors will think is a wonderful example of gardening at its highest level”.

Sir Robert Hildyard at Flintham Hall said:

“Everyone has worked hard to create a garden of beauty and tranquillity.

“And Flintham residents have helped to make this a special day.

“We enjoy opening the gardens so people can share the sheer joy they bring.

“There is no nicer or lovelier way of raising money for charity.”

The village hall will be serving tea and cakes, thanks to the efforts of the Village Hall Committee and the Macmillan Cancer Support team.

Proceeds from the day will go to the NGS-nominated charities, including  Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Hospice UK, Carers Trust, Parkinson’s UK, The Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing and projects promoting gardening as a therapy..
