After forty years since they played the Rock City in 1986, Latin Quarter return to Nottingham.
The gig is part of an extensive 19-concert tour of the UK and Germany.
The band first came to notice in the 80s with hits such as “Radio Africa” and “New Millionaires”.
“Radio Africa” – with its haunting lyrics still relevant to today’s problem world – was a top twenty hit in the UK.
These songs were taken from the album, “Modern Times”.
The New York Daily Post described “Modern Times” as “one of the most exquisite electro-pop albums ever to come out of England”.
The group split in the early 90s.
Over the years it has re-emerged and morphed into various line-ups.
Since they reunited in 2012 they have been their most productive.
In these last 14 years they have produced eight studio and one live album.
They promoted these albums with concerts throughout Europe.
Latin Quarter has remained hugely popular in Germany and Sweden.
Their newer songs continue where they left off – often writing about social and political issues.
Their latest single, ‘The Beautiful Game?, was released to coincide with the 2026 World Cup.
The song bemoans the changes and increasing corruption in the modern game.
Richard Wright
Three years ago, Latin Quarter played a special 40th anniversary tour and welcomed back the original electric guitarist, Richard Wright.
Richard took a few weeks off as the guitar teacher at the world-renowned Yehudi Menuhin Music School in Surrey.
In 2024 longtime members Steve Skaith, Steve Jeffries and Mary Carewe were joined by cellist Anna Carewe to form a quartet.
The album “I Together” was followed by a hugely successful tour in Germany, Switzerland and the UK.
This acoustic line-up was originally planned as a one-off.
However, the response to both this record and the live gigs was so positive they decided to continue this year as a quartet.
The Nottingham and Europe gigs will combine older songs with ones from a new album, “Crooks and Crimes” to be released in September.
