Flintham Second XI scoreboard

The earlier encounter between Calverton and Flintham First XI produced a thrilling finale with Flintham winning with a six off the last ball.

This match had spectators equally enthralled.

Calverton, chasing 257, needed just seven runs off the last two overs, with one wicket in hand to win.

But Will Helliwell took the all-important wicket off the fifth ball of the penultimate over, gaining the maximum twenty points for Flintham.

Coming into the match, Flintham and Calverton were third and fourth respectively in the Gunn and Moore South Notts Division B.

Flintham won the toss and chose to bat.

Calverton took two early wickets and, when Spencer Taylor was dismissed for a lively 25, Flintham were just 67 for 3 off 18 overs.

Mike Playle, with a classy 88, and Will Helliwell (61) rebuilt the innings to a respectable score.

It was, however, the partnership of 34 runs from the last three overs between JJ Arthur and Matt Winn that gave Flintham a competitive score.

Calverton’s innings rattled off to a fast start and they were always ahead of the run rate, thanks to their captain Adam Peel (68).

Flintham kept picking up wickets at crucial times through Spencer Taylor (4), with Jack Playle and Hugo Orme getting two apiece.

It was Orme’s spell that slowed the run rate, and brought Flintham back into contention, bowling his last 11 overs for 41 runs.

Flintham move to second in the league, and next play third placed Attenborough away in a crunch match for the final promotion spot, on 12th August.

Meanwhile at Inholms Gardens, Flintham Second XI had a more comfortable win over Burton Joyce Cricket Club.

The opening batters had a substantial first wicket partnership of 171 with contributions from Graham Lockwood (81) and Anthony Barrowcliffe (59).

The opposition failed to put together any sort of partnership and were all out for 83 compared to the substantial final score of 238 for six made by Flintham.

Best bowling figures for Flintham were for Robin Cook who took three wickets for 15 runs off his nine overs.
