Flintham First Team hosted mid-table rivals Plumtree Second XI at Inholms Gardens last Saturday.
Plumtree fielded first against Flintham openers Tom Southall and Max Pritchard.
The batters looked to make a solid start, but Pritchard fell early after hitting a robust 35 off 20 balls.
He was replaced by Michael Playle and soon Flintham found themselves on 84 for two.
The other opener, Tom Southall fell some 30 balls later, although he later proved to be the Flintham top scorer with 47 runs.
Wickets continued to fall as nobody was able to push on.
Flintham batted through all of their 50 overs for a modest total of 236.
Flintham took to the field, but right from the start they knew that they had not posted enough runs – and so it proved to be.
Whilst the opening batters fell early, thanks to wickets from Max Pritchard and Max Shenton, there came a solid stand of 81 runs which took Plumtree a goodly way to their target.
Whilst two more wickets were taken, by Jack Playle and Max Danby, the total was reached in just 33.2 overs.
Top scorer for Plumtree was M Kennedy with 86 runs.
A regular spectator said:
“Flintham are hopeful they will maintain Division A status this season.
“To do so they will need to achieve at least one more win from their last three games.
“And, there are teams below them with games in hand.”
