Depleted Flintham hang on for a losing draw before retiring to The Boot and Shoe

The Boot and Shoe

With many first team regulars missing from the starting eleven, this was always going to be a test for Flintham, and so it proved to be.

Flintham won the toss and elected to field in a match reduced to 40 overs, due to the showery weather.

An enterprising 68 from Max Danby gave Fiskerton & Thurgaton a solid start.

Dan Jones joined Danby and together they took the Flintham bowlers to task.

At 165 for 3, F&T were in the box seats.

But they fell in quick succession to Ben Hughes and James Hazzledine.

Hazzledine finished with the impressive figures of 5 for 36 and Flintham were happy at the interval having restricted the batting side to 202 for nine in blustery conditions.

Flintham got off to a steady rather than spectacular start.

Impetus was needed and this came from Spencer Taylor with 40 off 39 balls.

When he was run out, followed soon after by Tom Helliwell and James Hazzledine.

Sam Hawkins batted out the overs sensibly to secure a losing draw, scoring 22 not out.

Credit must go to Fiskerton and Thurgarton bowlers who kept a disciplined line and length throughout.

James Watterson was the star performer with 4 for 23 off his ten overs, including a leg stump yorker to remove Flintham’s captain, Jonathan Arthur.

Fiskerton and Thurgarton reduced Flintham to 153 for 9 and took 18 points to Flintham’s eight.

Both teams retired to the Boot and Shoe pub, the match having been played in good spirit!
