Actor Andy Serkis to read The Hobbit live in 12 hour marathon

Andy Serkis – Gollum in The Lord Of The Rings – is to give a continuous 12 hours’ live reading of The Hobbit.

The marathon session – with no breaks – will help raise money for charities.

It’s thought a straight through reading will take between 10 to 12 hours.

Serkis said: “So many of us are struggling in isolation during the lockdown.

“While times are tough, I want to take you on one of the greatest fantasy adventures ever written, a 12-hour armchair marathon across Middle Earth whilst raising money for two amazing charities which are doing extraordinary work right now to help those most in need.”

Donations through GoFundMe will go to the NHS Charities Together and Best Beginnings – of which he is an ambassador.

Best Beginnings supports babies, toddlers, pregnant families and new parents and aims to reduce inequality.

The livestream will start at 10am on Friday (May 8th).
