Scandal prone peer Lord Mandelson will be summoned to give evidence to the American Congress about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
The US oversight committee is ready to issue an order for him to testify in Washington.
The committee is behind the lease of more than three million files on paedophile money-man Epstein.
It believes Lord Mandelson might have crucial information about Epstein and the people who helped him.
Meanwhile, Lord Mandelson has since resigned from the Labour Party.
He said he didn’t wish to “cause further embarrassment” over his time spent with Epstein.
Among the tranche of documents released there are candid snaps of the Lord in his white “Y” front underpants.
More damaging are documents that purport to show Epstein sent some $50,000 to Mandelson’s bank account.
He was a Labour MP at the time.
However, the deposits were not declared to Commons’ officials.
Lord Mandelson has written to Hollie Ridley, General Secretary of the Labour Party, to say he was quitting his party membership.
In his letter, he said:
“I have been further linked this weekend to the understandable furore surrounding Jeffrey Epstein and I feel regretful and sorry about this.
“Allegations which I believe to be false that he made financial payments to me 20 years ago, and of which I have no record or recollection, need investigating by me.
“While doing this I do not wish to cause further embarrassment to the Labour Party and I am therefore stepping down from membership of the party.”
He later said: “I want to take this opportunity to repeat my apology to the women and girls whose voices should have been heard long before now.
“I have dedicated my life to the values and success of the Labour Party and in taking my decision, I believe I am acting in its best interests.”
Congress cannot make foreigners to give evidence.
However, if Lord Mandelson later went to America he could be arrested.
