A striking new sculptural modern art work has been unveiled at Fulbeck Manor.
Local artist Kevin Baumber was commissioned to create a steel bull on the remains of a magnificent cedar tree lost in the 2024 storms.
The powerful charging bull sculpture stands as both a tribute to local craftsmanship and as an echo of a previous treasured piece of Fulbeck’s cultural history.
Bull’s horns featured on the coat of arms that once adorned the Grade II listed Queen Anne gates of Fulbeck Hall and linked to the Fane family’s heraldry.
The gates were damaged in a hit and run collision in 2016.
The then owner William Day said:
“The gates were a particularly fine example of rare Queen Anne wrought ironwork.
“They must be fully restored.”
The gates’ coat of arms – which included bull horns -are still missing.
Alix Fane is the current owner of the Queen Anne stately home near Newark.
She said:
“Putting up the sculpture is a reminder that the project is far from finished.
“The bull stands for strength and persistence.
“It is a symbol of how deeply felt is the loss and how we will continue to see that gates restored to their original glory.”
The public can enjoy the sculpture at the next Fulbeck Artisan Market on Saturday 13th December.
