Britain’s oldest seed catalogue grows to a £200 million price tag

A mail order plant business founded 150 years ago could be sold for more than £200 million.

Thompson& Morgan – set up in 1855 – is working with financial experts on “strategic options”.

The decision follows an exceptionally strong trading year for the company as people have been at home during the pandemic.

Many have been working hard in their gardens.

Thompson & Morgan was set up by William Thompson in Ipswich when he published a magazine called The English Flower Garden.

Through the catalogue the company introduced more plants and flowers to British gardens than anyone else.

Bankers said Thompson & Morgan might be valued at £150 million to £200 million.
