Child killer Ian Huntley has been blinded and on life support after being attacked in prison.

It’s said the double child murderer is “highly unlikely to survive” after being hit with a spiked metal pole.

It’s the third time Huntley, 52, has been attacked in prison.

He is currently serving a life sentence at HMP Frankland in County Durham.

The so called “Soham Killer”, Huntley was found by paramedics near the prison workshop.

He was said to be barely breathing and had a huge split in his head.

It’s said he has less than a 5% chance of surviving.

A source told The Sun newspaper:

“It is now looking like he will not pull through, barring a miracle.

Huntley never recovered from the battering and never stood much of a chance of doing so.

“It looks like it’s only a matter of time.

“It could be days; it could be weeks.

“It is probably for the best – and very few people would shed a tear.”

Police said a prisoner in his 40s has been found in connection with the ambush.

Suspect Anthony Russell, a triple killer and rapist is reported to have said: “I’ve done it, I’ve done it, I’ve killed him, I’ve killed him.”

Huntley was jailed for life with a minimum term of 40 years in December 2003 after he was found guilty of the two murders.

He was told he had “little or no hope” of ever being released.
