Match Report: B Anthony
An opening partnership of 214 proved a solid base for Flintham CC to cruise to victory against Kirby Portland.
Flintham chose to bat first, condemning the visitors to four long gruelling “sunshine” hours in the field.
Openers James Taylor and Max Pritchard stood their ground until the 34th over.
Eventually, big hitter Max – 18 runs in one over – holed out to bowler Alex Scott.
He hit 115 runs off 114 balls.
Two overs later Alex fell to the same bowler for a personal milestone 87 runs.
Apart from cameos roles from Michael Playle – hitting a brisk 21 – and Tom Helliwell scoring 19 runs, the remaining batters could only manage 32 runs between them.
Flintham finally ended their innings on a total of 306 runs.
The rock-solid opening promised a much bigger score – however, it was still too much for Kirby Portland to chase down.
Despite opener Lawrence Burton hitting a valiant 54, wickets tumbled around him.
Kirby Portland quickly found themselves at 87 for five.
Burton was gone for 54 runs.
Captain Liam King took control and settled his team, but by then the run rate was too challenging.
King had a noteworthy partnership with Alex Scott (41) and achieved a personal best, scoring 101 of just 70 balls.
The visitors finished 33 runs short of the total needed, giving Flintham First XI a second consecutive win in the South Nottinghamshire A Division.
Two Flintham bowlers – Max Danby and Max Pritchard took three wickets each – but the damage was done by the Flintham opening pair.
Flintham’s man of the match was Max Pritchard, scoring his 115 runs, taking three wickets for 44 in his ten overs, and holding an outstanding catch on the boundary.
Credit should also go to the opposition’s captain Liam King, himself scoring a century and taking two wickets for 36 runs in his 10 overs.
