Flintham First XI travelled to the top of the table club hoping to end a run of three defeats.

However, those hopes were dashed by Wollaton CC – undefeated in their first three games in Division A of the South Nottinghamshire League.

Flintham lost the toss and were put into bat.

Chris Dibley lost his wicket in the first over; not the start Flintham needed.

Opener James Taylor did hold the innings together for the next 36 overs, finally falling for 78 to an accurate delivery from J Malkani.

Tom Southall scored 28 runs in a 40-run partnership, and Matt Winn scored 21 in the largest partnership in the innings of 55 runs.

The tailenders managed to hang around and score useful runs.

A final score of 250 for nine being achieved.

Wollaton’s J Malkani took four wickets for 42 runs off his allotted 10 overs.

Wollaton had a confident start until Jack Playle took two wickets in the seventh over.

Opener R Glendenning then had a very lucrative partnership with Cameron Heard batting at four.

They accumulated an impressive 161 runs in 26 overs.

As they say, one wicket brings two and shortly after Heard fell for 85 in the 34th over, his partner Glendenning fell for 77 runs just two overs later.

The final partnership of Latif and Goyal knocked off the remaining runs needed in 45 overs.

Flintham were subdued at the end of the game and are looking to put things right next week when they are back at their home ground.

B Anthony – the match scorer – said:

“Flintham were disappointed, to say the least.

“We’ve moved up a division and the standard of play is excellent.

“When everything comes together, we can certainly match other teams.

“But we’re mis-firing a little.

“However, I was pleased to see that the numbers of extras conceded were significantly reduced in this game compared to the previous week.

“Our wides were cut from 28 to 11 and No Balls reduced from five to one.”
