Flintham CC Chris Dibley
Match report from B Anthony
Firstly, a word of caution from Flintham’s scorer B Anthony – always be vigilant.
While scoring at Calverton, the ball was middled straight towards the scorers’ box.
Luckily, B was keeping an eye on the game and ducked at the last second.
The ball whistled past her and crashed into her chair – ripping a hole through the back.
B said: “The moment I heard the ball come off the bat I knew the batter had really caught hold of it.
“If I hadn’t moved I’d have taken the full force into my ribs.”
Sadly, Flintham 1st XI took the full force of a rampant Calverton for this week’s Division A match.
The home team won the toss and chose to bat.
They quickly put Flintham’s bowlers to the sword.
Under par bowling allowed opening bat, Matt Dean to put on 111 runs, initially with Billy Armstrong and then with Ryan Evans at number three.
Evans continued the onslaught and plundered 192 runs before being caught and bowled by Chris Dibley off the last ball of the match.
Calverton finished their innings on the magnificent total of 395 off their 50 overs.
Flintham were never in the game.
They were skittled out in 27.4 overs for a meagre 140, losing the fixture by 255 runs.
This leaves the side needing to get a result in at least one of the next two matches to avoid the possibility of relegation.
Meanwhile at home at The Gardens, a strong Flintham second team outplayed Plumtree fourth XI, propelling themselves into second position in Division L, with one match to play.
After a solid start from openers George Mason and Noah Baxter with a 100 partnership, Mason eventually posted a career best score of 174 not out.
Veteran Flintham player, Alex Hemstock, the club’s all-time batting record holder, also contributed an unbeaten 50.
Flintham ended on 300 for two off their allotted overs.
Plumtree never really got going but their youngsters batted well.
They reached 172 for 7.
A disappointing eight dropped catches cost Flintham two points.
