Ronan Keating’s brother Ciaran killed in car crash

Singer Ronan Keating’s brother Ciaran has been killed in a car crash in Co Mayo.

It is understood Mr Keating’s wife was injured in the incident.

His son plays for Cork City. The football club said on Twitter that it was “deeply saddened at the passing of Ciaran Keating, father of our player Ruairí Keating”.

Cork City said: “We extend our deepest sympathies to Ruairi and the entire Keating family at this exceptionally difficult time.

“We ask that the family’s privacy be respected. Funeral arrangements will be confirmed in due course.

“May he rest in peace.”

The two-vehicle accident happened on the N5 at Ballymiles, near Swinford, at about 3.35pm on Saturday.

The driver of the other vehicle was seriously injured and taken to Mayo University Hospital.

A man and a woman, passengers from each car, are being treated too. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Garda forensic investigators have examined the scene and the vehicles involved.
