Biden says Putin ‘losing war in Iraq’ in latest mishap

Joe Biden has said Vladimir Putin is losing the “war in Iraq” in the latest of a series of mistakes made by the 80-year-old president.

Answering questions from journalists, Mr Biden said: “It’s hard to tell but he’s clearly losing the war in Iraq.”

“He’s losing the war at home, and he has become a bit of a pariah around the world.

“And it’s not just NATO. It’s not just the European Union. It’s Japan. It’s, you know, 40 nations,” referring to the opposition against Putin.

More on Joe Biden

The comments are the latest in a series of mistakes made by the Democratic Party’s likely candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

Less than a week ago, he finished a speech at the National Safer Communities Summit in Connecticut by saying “God save the Queen, man”.

The phrase is now usually said as “God save the King” after the death of the late Queen in September of last year at the age of 96.

He appeared to forget Rishi Sunak’s job title, addressing the British prime minister as Mr President earlier this month.

The president also fell on stage at a US air force academy ceremony.

Mr Biden’s comments come less than a week after Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin attempted an uprising in Russia resulting in his exile to Belarus.
