According to reports from local media, three people were killed and another injured by a shooting in Japan. The suspect had barricaded himself in an apartment building.
Witnesses told NHK that a woman was chased down by a man in a mask, who then attacked her with a knife, and fired at two police officers with a rifle when they arrived at the scene in Nakano City, in the Nagano prefecture.
Police said that the three women were transported to a hospital nearby, where they found out that the woman had died.
NHK reported that two more police officers died later.
Kyodo News reported that a fourth injured person could not be saved because he lay near the scene of attack.
News agency: The suspect was believed to have barricaded in the home of the president of the city council and that several gunshots could be heard near the scene.
NHK’s footage shows uniformed police in bulletproof vests, shields and with an ambulance nearby.
Officials from the city urged residents to stay home.
The Kyodo News Agency reported that the police described the suspect wearing sunglasses, a hat, and a mask.
There are no other details known about the suspect or his motive.
