In the US state Indiana, a three-year old boy grabbed a firearm and shot his mother and a murder suspect.
According to reports, the toddler who is believed to be a boy fired only one bullet that struck Trayshaun, 23, as well as Jalynn, 21, his mother.
Smith was arrested by the police in Lafayette, after he had been treated for a non life-threatening gunshot injury.
The murder warrant was issued in Cook County, Illinois.
According to the police, he and Ms Artis (who was not seriously injured either) are friends.
Lafayette police were called to an apartment after two people were shot at shortly after 8:30pm on Thursday.
Smith was visiting the property.
The officers have not revealed how the child obtained the gun, or what caused him to fire the weapon.
Lieutenant Justin Hartman, a spokesperson for USA Today, said that the Indiana Department of Child Services had been contacted regarding the child’s gun. However “no immediate actions were taken” at the time.
The website stated that as of Monday, no additional arrests have been made or charges filed in relation to the toddler obtaining the gun. However, the Tippecanoe county prosecutor is currently reviewing the case.
Lafayette is located about 60 miles north of Indianapolis.
