Man caught trying to smuggle eight-and-a half inch pair of scissors in a prison – by hiding it in his anus.
The staff made the discovery while they were processing him for a stay in La Porte County Jail, located in the US state Indiana.
The object was found in a “peculiar place” according to officials. This is after suspicions were raised by the arrest of the suspect on Wednesday when he refused to cooperate with a routine search.
The man “reluctantly agreed” to an electronic scan after Lieutenant Jeff Holt – the assistant commander of jail operations – “observed a foreign object in the anal cavity”.
Officials stated that the man was still uncooperative, but a second scan shortly after revealed the object moved slightly. It could then be identified as scissors.
A spokesperson for the prison added: “A few minutes later, the scissors had been removed without incident from the arrested.”
Captain Derek J Allen from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office said: “Lieutenant Holt deserves praise for using his training and expertise to successfully prevent a dangerously edged object making its full way into the jail.”
The authorities did not provide any further information about the man’s arrest or his crime.
Since the full-body scan was introduced in 2017, they have recovered items such as tattooing equipment and drugs.
