FBI lacked ‘actual evidence’ to probe Trump-Russia links, report finds

A report concluded that the FBI did not have “actual evidence” when it began to investigate potential links between Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, and Russia.

The US Special Counsel John Durham probe found that the Bureau had also relied on too many tips from the former President’s political rivals before it launched the early stages of its “Crossfire Hurricane’ inquiry.

Donald Trump will use these findings to fuel his political campaign for reelection in 2024. He wrote: “WOW!” on the Truth Social platform. John Durham, a Special Counsel who has conducted extensive research on the matter, concluded that the FBI should never have opened the Trump-Russia Probe! The American Public has been scammed just like it is now being scammed by those who do not want GREATNESS in America!

The report is the culmination of a four year investigation that began in May 2019, when William Barr, then Attorney General, appointed Mr Durham as an investigator to look into possible missteps made by the FBI during the launch of Crossfire Hurricane.

This investigation was later handed over to Robert Mueller who concluded in March 2019 that there were no signs of a criminal conspiracy involving Mr Trump’s election campaign and Moscow.

In his 306-page new report, Mr Durham concluded the US intelligence and law enforcement had no “actualevidence”, of collusion between Trump’s presidential campaign and Russia before launching Crossfire Hurricane.

The report criticized the FBI for opening an investigation on the basis of “raw, unevaluated and uncorroborated information,” saying that the speed with which they did it was out of the ordinary.

The report also claimed that investigators relied repeatedly on “confirmation biased”, ignoring or rationalising evidence which undermined their premise of Trump-Russian conspiracy, as they moved the investigation forward.

He also claimed that the Bureau treated the 2016 Trump investigation differently from other politically sensitive inquiries.

Hillary Clinton , the Democratic rival of former President.

He said that Mrs Clinton and some other officials were given defensive briefings on the possibility of foreign interference. Mr Trump, however, did not receive such a briefing prior to the FBI opening an investigation into four members from his campaign.

The FBI responded to the report by saying that it had already implemented dozens corrective measures.

for some time.

After being delivered to Attorney-General Merrick Garland by Mr Durham on Friday, the report was made available to Congress without redactions on Monday.

Jim Jordan, Republican chair of the House Judiciary Committee, announced on Twitter that he had invited Mr Durham to appear before him next week and testify regarding his report.

This report is coming as Mr Trump plans to run for reelection in New York in 2024, despite being charged with criminal offenses in New York .

Two federal investigations, led by Special Counsel Jack Smith, are examining both Mr Trump’s retention and use of classified documents as well as his role in the efforts to reverse the results of the presidential election of 2020.

Mr Trump hoped that Mr Durham would release the report before the 2020 elections, as he believed it would be a major blow to Vice President Joe Biden’s election campaign.
