A resident in Germany used an unknown object to ignite a bomb in an apartment building, according to the state minister of interior.
Police said that the identity of the body was still being determined, but they confirmed that it had been discovered in a flat belonging to a blast suspect.
Reuters reported that security sources do not rule out the possibility of a targeted attack on the town Ratingen.
The interior minister for North Rhine-Westphalia confirmed that firefighters and police were dispatched to the building in the morning following concerns raised by two residents.
Herbert Reul said that they discovered a fire when they opened an apartment’s door. One of the residents used an unknown object to cause an explosive explosion.
ZDF, the state broadcaster, reported that a mother and her son lived in an apartment block. Their mailbox was overflowing and this raised concerns.
The footage showed snipers of the police stationed on the balcony opposite the building, as smoke was leaking from an apartment at the top floor.
The police have confirmed that a major operation is underway.
