One woman stranded for five days in the Australian bush survived by drinking wine and eating sweets.
Lillian Ip was reported missing after driving through dense bushland and going on vacation in Victoria State.
She was 48 when she hit a dead-end and realized that she had taken the wrong turn. However, as she tried to turn her car around, it became stuck in mud.
She was unable call for assistance because there was no mobile coverage.
Ms Ip, who doesn’t drink, only had one bottle of wine that she planned to give away as a gift and a few sweets.
She used her car’s heater overnight to stay warm.
Emergency services flew over Ms Ip’s area after five days and spotted her car.
The woman was treated at the hospital for dehydration.
She told 9News that the first thing she thought of was water and cigarettes. “Thank God for the policewoman. She had a cigarette.”
When asked how the wine tastes, she replied: “I was afraid I would die there.” My entire body shut down Friday.”
She wrote to her family, telling them that she loved them.
Victoria Police reported that she was around 60km from the nearest town. Due to her health, she was unable walk to get help and stayed in her car.
Wodonga Police Station Sergent Martin Torpey stated: “She showed great common sense by staying with her vehicle and not wandering off into the bushland. This helped police to be able to locate her.”
The only liquid Lillian had, as she doesn’t drink alcohol, was a wine bottle that she bought for her mother. It got her through.
After being lost in the forest for five days, we were both relieved to see her and she was grateful to us.
