Deontay “Wilder” said that he’d rather be safe than regret after police found a gun in his vehicle in Los Angeles.
Officers searched Wilder as part of routine traffic stop early Tuesday morning.
According to the LA Times, he was stopped for an obscured numberplate and excessive window tinting in his Rolls Royce.
The police allegedly smelt pot, which led them to search the vehicle. They found a large quantity of marijuana and a 9mm pistol.
After spending about five hours in detention, he was released shortly after 6:30am.
Later, the 37-year old appeared to refer to the incident in a tweet he sent to his 777,00 followers. “I’d prefer to be safe than sorry.” The End.”
In December, the boxer will face Anthony Joshua from Britain.
Tyson Fury ended Wilder’s reign of WBC heavyweight champ in 2020.
