Authorities continue to discover bodies in Kenya, and they are linking at least 103 deaths to a suspected starvation group.
After the remains of the Good News International Church were discovered in Shakahola Forest, where it was located, a popular preacher arrested.
A police raid also saved several dozen people, most of whom were unable walk or talk. Some of the people found were emaciated, and they later died.
Paul Mackenzie is the leader of this church. He is currently in jail and accused of telling his followers to starve to get to heaven. He has denied all wrongdoing.
A second man has been arrested, Pastor Ezekiel Oro. He was due to appear in court on Friday.
The interior minister of Kenya said that he will “face criminal accusations related to the mass killings of his followers”.
Odero’s New Life Prayer Centre Church, located in the same area as Mackenzie’s – on Kenya’s East Coast – has over 400,000 subscribers on YouTube and 70,000,000 views.
Senior politicians have attended his services and people from all over Kenya travel to the church.
Two weeks ago, the bodies were discovered in the forest after an anonymous tip. Fourteen more cultists were being held.
The pictures of the 800-acre ranch show palm-thatched mud huts scattered around the trees and foliage.
The local Red Cross reported that more than 200 missing persons had been reported.
Kenya’s Public Prosecutions Office said that it was examining possible charges, including murder, radicalisation, and threats to public safety.
