Pentagon leaks suspect ‘discussed murder and assassination van’

Prosecutors say a man accused of leaking US Military documents engaged in “troubling conversations” about violence and death and was tempted to build an “assassination vehicle”.

They have made these claims to try and block Jack Teixeira’s expected request to be allowed to return to his father while he waits for trial.

In a chat room on social media, the 21-year-old Massachusetts Air National Guardsman revealed information about war in Ukraine and other sensitive subjects.

When the information became more widespread, he was arrested earlier in April and embarrassed by his arrest.

They were accused by some of a lack of safeguards, and questions were raised about how someone so junior could have such access to sensitive intelligence.

Lawyers for the Justice Department argue that Teixeira may still have more information to share and that his release would pose a grave national security threat.

The defendant’s damage to US national security has been immense. In court documents, they stated that the damage the defendant can still cause is extraordinary.

Lawyers said Teixeira posed a threat to the community because he owned multiple guns, and was involved in “detailed discussions about murder and violence” in the chatroom where he posted the documents.

According to documents filed late on Wednesday, he told someone in February that he had been tempted to turn a minivan “into an assassination vehicle”.

He was also suspended from school for allegedly having spoken about weapons, petrol bombs and racial threats.

Prosecutors added that a smashed Xbox, tablet and laptop were found in his rubbish, as if to try to destroy any evidence.

Who is the guardsman accused of leaking intelligence?

Secrets revealed behind the veil of the platform

Online, people who interacted online with the guardsman have painted him as someone that wants to show off rather than being motivated by any political or ideologic motivation.

The authorities have not yet given their opinion on the motive and he hasn’t entered a plea.

Teixeira’s documents, which he shared as a “cyber-transport systems specialist”, included details on the battlefield locations in Ukraine, and exact numbers of military equipment supplied by Western allies.
