A woman who was ‘ruthless’ and ‘calculating’ has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for poisoning a cheesecake with poison to try to kill her American friend to steal her identity.
A New York jury found Viktoria Nazyrova guilty of attempted murder in February.
In August 2016, the 47-year old took a sedative-laced desert to Olga Tsvyk in New York City during an appointment for eyelashes.
Nasyrova reportedly ate two pieces of cheesecake before offering a third to the 35-year old beautician.
Ms Tsyvk was found unconscious in a coma.
The prosecution said Nasyrova scattered pills all around Ms Tsyvk in order to give the appearance of a suicide before taking her passport, and valuables.
Later, it was discovered that the cheesecake contained phenazepam, a powerful sedative.
Nasyrova’s DNA was found in a box.
Both women had dark hair and similar skin tone, according to the court.
Nasyrova’s sentence was handed down on Wednesday.
Melinda Katz, Queens District Attorney said that a con artist who was ruthless and calculated would be sent to prison for many years for her attempts to murder people for personal gain.
Jose Nieves said that Nasyrova would appeal the conviction and sentence.

Nasyrova’s name was on Interpol’s Red List before her arrest. She had been accused of fleeing Russia after killing her neighbor in 2014.
According to reports, she was caught on CCTV driving her car with a woman’s dead body in the front seat.
In a 2017 CBS interview, Nasyrova denied this allegation and said that the images were false and that she had been framed by the police.
She told the New York Post that she was a dominatrix while living in New York and said the cheesecake incident could have been food poisoning.
