Moonbin, who was a member of K-pop group Astro, died at the age of 25, according to the label.
Yonhap News reports that South Korean police confirmed the body of the singer was found at his home, in Seoul’s Gangnam-gu, by the manager of the band on Wednesday evening.
Police are still investigating his cause of death, but it is believed that he had been pronounced dead when they arrived.
Fantagio Music announced Moonbin’s passing on social media.
The message, which is translated from Korean, begins with “We apologize for the sad and heartbreaking news.”
“On April 19, Astro’s Moonbin left us suddenly to become a celestial star.”
The Astro members, Fantagio artists and company executives mourn the deceased with great sadness and shock.
Moonbin (real name Moon Bin) began his career as a child-model before becoming a Fantagio trainee in the 5th grade (10-11 years old). He then joined the boy band Astro, which consists of six members, in 2016.
In February of this year, former member Rocky left the band.
The statement asked fans to “please refrain from malicious or speculative reports” in order to protect Moonbin’s family who are “in great sorrow due to this sudden sad news”.

The funeral will take place as quietly as is possible, in accordance with the wishes of his family, with only family, friends, and colleagues present.
Moonbin’s death has been mourned by fans around the globe. One fan was shocked to learn of his passing and wrote on Twitter, “Just heard about Moonbin. My heart is aching.” I send my deepest condolences his family and friends. Please take care of everyone”.
One said: “His smiley eye will never leave my head [sic] Moonbin Rest In Peace Angel”.
A third fan wrote, “You will be my brightest moon forever.” Moonbin, I will never forget about you.
