Police say that the former home of German cannibals has been destroyed by fire.
Armin Meiwes, convicted of murder and disturbing peace of the dead in the half-timber home almost 20 years ago.
According to dpa, the cause of a fire that broke out in Rotenburg an der Fulda, Germany, overnight is still unknown, but the police have not ruled out arson.
The house was empty for many years.
Christian Grunwald said that he hoped the destruction of the monument would discourage people from visiting it.
He said: “The ruin should be permanently removed.” It cannot become a place of pilgrimage.
Prosecutor: Evidence of “cannibalism” in Berlin murder
Meiwes was arrested for the murder of Bernd Juergen brandes in December 2002.
He said that Mr Brandes responded to his post on the internet seeking a young person for “slaughter” and “consumption”, and that he was willing to be stabbed after drinking a cold medicine bottle to help him become unconscious.
Meiwes recorded the murder on video.
He was sentenced to eight and half years of prison in 2004 for manslaughter. However, after an appeal from the prosecutors in 2006, he received a life term for murder following a retrial.
