An Indian gangster-turned-politician has been shot dead on live television.
Atiq and Ashraf Ahmed were handcuffed as they were being taken to a doctor for a checkup at the time of this attack.
The camera crews approached both men, and the police claim that the gunmen were pretending to be journalists.
Ashraf Ahmad was also killed.
Three people were arrested on the scene. At least one was chanting, “Jai Shri Ram”, or “Hail Lord Ram,” which has become a rallying cry for Hindu nationalists who are fighting Muslims.
Ramit Sharma, a police officer, said that the gunmen approached the brothers under the pretense of filming and shot them in their head.
He added, “It happened all in seconds.”
Both a police officer and a reporter for NBC News were injured.
Police killed Atiq Ahmed’s son, a teenager, and another man who were both accused of a recent murder in a shooting that was described as an “outbreak”.

What are the implications of this week’s US news?
Atiq Ahmed, 60, has been jailed since 2019 after being convicted of kidnapping.
Opposition politicians have condemned the killings, claiming that the government of Uttar Pradesh is tolerant towards crime.
Akhilesh Yaddav, a politician, tweeted the following: “When someone is able to be killed openly by shooting in the middle of a police cordon, what does that mean for the safety of general public?”
It seems some people deliberately create an atmosphere of fear among the public.
