His spokesperson suggested that Alexei Navalny is a prisoner suffering from a mysterious illness in prison. It could be caused by a slow-acting poison.
According to reports, the opposition politician lost 8kg in less than two weeks. An ambulance was dispatched for him this weekend.
Mr Navalny has been taken into custody in Melekhovo (about 115 miles east from Moscow) as a maximum-security IK-6 penal colony.
Kira Yarmysh, his spokesperson, said that a stomach problem flared up. Prison doctors had previously treated him by injecting him medicine they didn’t recognize.
She stated in the tweet that “We don’t rule out that Alexei Navalny may be slowly poisoned and being killed slowly to attract less attention.”
She added, “He is being held at the mercy of severe pain and without medical assistance in a prison cell.”
The Kremlin denied that Mr Navalny was being slowly poisoned and said that it was not a matter of his health. It was a matter for federal prisons.
