North Korea missile launch sparks panic and evacuations in Japan

Japan was panicked by a North Korean missile launch. The weapon did not reach the sea.

North Korea launched a missile between the Korean Peninsula & Japan, South Korean officials claimed, calling it “grave provocation”.

According to a South Korean military officer, the test involved an apparently new weapon system that was displayed at a North Korean military parade. It could have been using solid fuel.

The Japanese government was prompted to issue an evacuation order for Hokkaido Island. However, it was later retracted.

According to the South Korean military, it is on high alert and cooperating closely with its main ally the United States. This “strongly condemned” the White House’s statement that a long-range missile test had been conducted.

Yasukazu Hayada, Japan’s defense minister, stated that it was an ICBM (intercontinental ballistic Missile) weapon. It appeared to have been fired at a high angle from the east.

The projectile finally fell into the ocean to the east and north of North Korea.

Fumio Kishida, the Japanese Prime Minister, called a meeting of the National Security Council to discuss the launch.

According to a student from Hokkaido Island, the alert created confusion and fear at a train station.

He said, “For a second, there was panic in the train, but a station worker told people to calm down, which they did.”

The US has reaffirmed its willingness to hold talks despite condemning the latest missile test by North Korea.

Adrienne Watson, spokesperson for the US National Security Council, stated that the latest launch “needlessly raised tensions and risked destabilising security situation in the region”.

She said that although diplomacy is open, Pyongyang must stop its destabilizing actions immediately and choose diplomatic engagement.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pledged to double his nuclear push in 2018, calling for an “exponential rise” in nuclear warheads and mass production of tactical nuclear weapons that can be used against “enemy South Korea” as well as the development of more advanced ICBMs.

One of the most important high-tech weapons that the North Korean leader has promised to develop to better deal with US military threats is the solid-propellant ICBM.

Pyongyang maintains that its weapons testing activities are legitimate counteractions to military drills between US forces and South Korean forces . This it regards as an invasion rehearsal.

Washington and Seoul both stated that their exercises were defensive in nature.
