Support services said that a boat carrying around 400 people in distress was spotted drifting between Greece and Malta. It is now taking on water.
Sea-Water International, a German NGO, tweeted that the passengers were in “imminent death danger” and called for action from the EU.
Alarm Phone also tweeted its concern, stating that it had received a phone call from the boat which left from Tobruk, Libya.
Alarm Phone reported that panicked passengers are on board and many need medical attention. This includes a child, pregnant woman, and anyone with a disability.
According to reports, the vessel has run out of fuel while its lower deck is filled with water.
Alarm Phone stated that the captain has gone and there is “nobody capable of steering the boat”.
It also stated that it had notified the authorities.
Alarm Phone has been added to alert that the boat is currently in the Maltese Search and Rescue Area.

Reuters reported that there has been a recent increase in the number of migrants boats crossing the Mediterranean from North Africa.
Resqship in Germany, another NGO, stated on Sunday that at most 23 migrants were killed in the Mediterranean overnight by a separate shipwreck.
It tweeted that 25 people were found in the water during a rescue mission.
After a complicated 11-hour operation in stormy waters by the Geo Barents, 440 migrants were saved off Malta last week.
