Sky News reports that Silvio Berlusconi, the former Prime Minister of Italy, has been diagnosed as having leukaemia.
After suffering from breathing difficulties, the HTML86-year-old was admitted to intensive care at Milan’s San Raffaele Hospital.
According to a source, the former prime minister was diagnosed with leukaemia. He is now stable.
“He’s stable. After visiting Mr Berlusconi on Wednesday afternoon, his brother Paolo stated that he was a rock.
In recent years, the billionaire media mogul has been afflicted by several health issues. He was diagnosed with COVID-19 in 2020.
He was discharged after a 10-day stay in hospital. He said that the disease was “insidious” which made it the most difficult challenge he’d ever faced.
He has been using a pacemaker since childhood, had heart surgery in 2016 to replace his aortic valve and has now overcome prostate cancer. In January 2022, he was admitted to the hospital for a suspected urinary tract infection.
In 2011, Italy was close to a Greece-style credit crisis. Mr Berlusconi was forced to resign as prime minister. He also faced scandals around his “bunga bunga” parties.
After a September general election, he was elected to the Senate.

While Mr Berlusconi’s Forza Italia Party is part of Prime Minister Giorgia Maloni’s right-wing coalition he doesn’t have any role in government.
Ms Meloni posted on social media: “Sincere, affectionate wishes for Silvio Berlusconi a speedy recovery.” She also added: “Forza Silvio”
