Star Wars actor Mark Hamill lends his voice to an app for air raid alerts to warn Ukrainians about incoming Russian bombardments.
“Attention. “Air raid alert,” he said in the calm, wise voice of Luke Skywalker.
“Proceed towards the nearest shelter.
Don’t let your guard down. Overconfidence is your weakness.

Hamill’s Skywalker voice can be used in the Air Alert app. It is linked to Ukraine‘s air defense system.
App users who have Hamill set as their preferred voice for aid raid sirens in war-torn countries will hear Hamill issue Jedi-style warnings whenever they hear them.
“May the Force Be with You”
Actor, 71 years old, said that he wanted to participate because the conflict reminded of the Star Wars saga where outgunned rebels defeat an evil empire.
He said that a fairy tale about good and evil was a fitting metaphor for what is happening in Ukraine.
“It is impossible not to be inspired at how they have weathered this storm.”
Hamill also announces when air warnings are finished, signing off with “may Force be with You”.
Olena Yeremina (a Kyiv business manager) said that it was “a very cool expression for this situation”.
The 38-year old added that this phrase sometimes reminds her to “straighten my shoulders” and “keep working.”

Star Wars ‘inspires people’
Bohdan Zvonyk (24), a resident of Lviv’s western city, stated that he used Hamill’s voice to improve his English.
It helps, too, that he is a Star Wars fan.
He said, “We could use some of the power Hamill wishes for us.”

Ukrainian security system manufacturer Ajax Systems co-developed the app.
It hopes Hamill’s starpower will inspire more people to download the app – in addition to the 14 millions who have it already.
Hamill stated, “It inspires people.” Everybody flashes back at six years of age again.
“And if the film can help people get over difficult times, so much for that!”
