After a parent complained that students were exposed during a lesson about Renaissance art, a Florida school principal resigned.
The lesson was given to 11- and 12-year olds and featured Michelangelo’s David sculpture, as well as Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and Creation of Adam paintings.
One parent claimed the material was pornographic, while two other parents said they wanted to be notified before their children were taught.
Hope Carrasquilla was the principal at Tallahassee Classical School. She resigned after being given an ultimatum by the chairman of the school board, local media reported.
She told the Tallahassee Democrat, “It saddens my that my time here had ended this way.”

In 1847, a reproduction of David was created for the V&A. According to the gallery’s website, Queen Victoria was shocked to see the reproduction.
