Bad Bunny’s ex girlfriend is suing him for at least $40m for a voice recording she made that he used in two songs.
Carliz De La Cruz Hernandez claims she recorded the catchphrase “Bad Bunny baby” in 2015. It has been used in two tracks that have been streamed hundreds and millions of times without her permission.
Bad Bunny, whose real name was Benito Martinez Ocasio, has been the most streamed artist on for the past three years.
According to the lawsuit, Ms. De La Cruz’s “distinguishable” voice was used in promotional events, worldwide concerts, and on radio, television, and social media without her consent.
The lawsuit stated that “since then, thousands have commented directly on Carliz’s social media networks as well as every single time she goes into a public place about the ‘Bad Bunny baby’.”
“This has caused, or currently causes De La Cruz to feel worried, anxious, anguished and intimidated.”
They met in 2011, and Ms De La Cruz recorded “Bad Bunny baby” in a friend’s bathroom at her request in 2015.

He proposed to her in January 2016, but they split in May 2016.
According to her lawyers, a Bad Bunny representative approached Ms. De La Cruz in May 2022 and offered $2,000 to purchase the recording of her voice.
The deal was never reached and the song was published by Ms. De La Cruz without her consent, according to her lawsuit.
