According to media reports, at least six police officers were injured in a house fire in France. Three of them were seriously.
It is believed that the gendarmes were French paramilitary police officers who went to the property to apprehend a man who was then struck by the blast in central Allier.
The suspect, identified as Christophe B, 38 had made death threats for several days, including against a probation officer and a prison guard.
Before they could smell petrol, three officers were able to capture the suspect. The explosion set fire to the property in Les Palissards.
Three officers sustained severe burns and were transported to the hospital.
The injuries to the hands and fingers of three other officers who entered the house to rescue their colleagues were less severe than those suffered by the two others.
After the fire had been extinguished, the body of the suspect was discovered.
Eric Neveu, Cusset’s public prosecutor, stated that three gendarmes sustained serious injuries following an explosion at a house where they were trying to arrest an individual.
He stated that the roof of the house had been “completely destroyed”.
Christophe B was on probation at the time.
According to French media, he had about a dozen convictions, including those for threats against police officers and traffic offenses.
