In Germany, two children are being accused of murdering a 12-year old girl. This shocking case has shocked the country.
Following a huge police search, the victim was discovered stabbed to death close to a cycle path in a forest.
Her parents raised alarm after she disappeared from her home the day before, having visited a friend.
According to police, the suspects, aged 12 and 13, have admitted to the murder in Freudenberg.
According to the Associated Press, officials refused to reveal any additional information about the identity or gender of the suspects.
Reuters reported that Mario Mannweiler, the prosecutor, had referred to suspects as “girls”.
Reporters were told by Mannweiler that they must assume the crime was committed in the presence of two children within the victim’s circle.
He also stated that Louise, a Freudenberg resident, died from knife wounds, but no weapon was found.
Mannweiler stated that there was no evidence of anyone else being involved in the incident, or that there had been a sexual assault.
According to police, Louise suffered multiple stab wounds and died from blood loss.
Suspected suspects are under the age of criminal liability, which is in Germany 14.
They were not taken into custody, but instead they were placed in the care of a youth welfare agency.
The small town was located approximately 50 miles east from Cologne. Residents were shocked to see flags flying at half-mast.
The governor of North Rhine-Westphalia (which includes Freudenberg) said that he was shocked by the murder.
Hendrik Wuest stated that “North Rhine-Westphalia has been grieving.”
“It is unimaginable and beyond comprehension that children can commit such terrible acts.”
He promised that the authorities would do all they could to determine the motives and circumstances of the death.
