Mexican cartel apologises for kidnapping and killing Americans and hands over gang members responsible

An Mexican drug cartel that was accused of abducting and killing four Americans has now condemned violence and claimed it has handed over the criminals to authorities.

According to a letter obtained from the Associated Press, the Scorpions faction in the Gulf cartel apologised for the four Americans, their families, Matamoros residents where they were kidnapped, and a Mexican woman who was killed in shooting at the time that they were abducted.

“We have decided that we will turn over those who were directly implicated and responsible for the events, and who at all times acted according to their own decision-making, and lack of discipline,” the letter reads. It was handed to the agency from an unnamed source.

The cartel claimed that the individuals were violating its rules which included “respecting life and well-being” of innocents.

The letter was accompanied by a photo of five men standing face down on the pavement.

Unnamed officials from the state security agency told the agency that five men were found in a vehicle they were searching for and the letter.

Officials from the state did not immediately announce that they had new suspects in their custody.

The Americans traveled from South Carolina to get a tummy-tuck from a Matamoros doctor last Friday.

Soon after arriving in Mexico, they were shot at by gunmen before being loaded onto a pickup truck.

The shooting resulted in the death of a Mexican woman.

It is not clear if the Americans were caught between rival drug cartel factions or if they were ambushed.

According to the Tamaulipas state prosecution’s office, it had seize an ambulance and was inspecting a Matamoros medical clinic that was allegedly used for treating the Americans following the shooting. There were no arrests.
