North Korea warns US shooting down test missiles will be considered a ‘declaration of war’

North Korea stated that any US move to down one of its test-missiles would be considered a declaration of war.

Kim Yo Jong, Kim Jong Un’s sister, also blamed a joint US-South Korean military exercise for the rising tensions on the peninsula. State media KCNA reported Tuesday.

She also suggested that Pyongyang might fire more missiles into Pacific Ocean.

Washington and its allies never fired down any North Korean ballistic weapons missiles. However, the question was reopened after Kim Jong Un’s suggestion that it would launch more missiles over Japan.

Kim stated that the Pacific Ocean is not under the control of Japan or the USA.

Analysts warn that North Korea will continue to threaten to transform the Pacific Ocean into a ” firing area” which would allow the nuclear-armed, isolated state to make technological advances and signal its military resolve.

Separately, the head of the Foreign News Section at North Korea’s Foreign Ministry said that the US had “aggravated” the situation by planning US-South Korea joint exercises and conducting an air drill on Monday with a B52 bomber.

The Unification Ministry of South Korea, which deals with relations with North Korea, responded by saying that Pyongyang’s reckless nuclear and missile development is responsible for the current situation.

North Korea launches ballistic missile

Washington deployed a B52 bomber to conduct a joint drill alongside South Korean fighter aircrafts. Seoul’s defense ministry stated that this was an act of force against North Korea’s missile and nuclear threats.

Starting next week, the two countries will be conducting more than 10 days worth of large-scale military drills known as “Freedom Shield”.

Yonhap news agency reported that on Tuesday, South Korean and US warplanes practiced rapid takeoff in response to North Korean threats of destroying airfields.

According to the North Korean army, its enemy fired 30 rounds of artillery close to the border on Tuesday. It demanded an immediate halt for what it called “provocative actions”.

South Korea denies doing so and claimed that the claim is baseless.
