According to her lawyer, the mother of five children who murdered her has been given permission to be euthanized at her request. This was 16 years after their deaths.
Genevieve Lhermitte, a mother of three and fourteen-year-old daughters, cut their throats with a kitchen knife in front of their family home in Nivelles, Belgium on 28 February 2007.
Lhermitte tried to kill herself, but she failed, and was eventually charged with the murders.
According to psychiatrists and psychologists, she was suffering from severe mental disorders at the time of her murders.
In December 2008, she was convicted of the crime and sentenced to life imprisonment. She was then transferred to a mental hospital in 2019.
Nicolas Cohen, the lawyer for the 56-year-old, confirmed that the victim had been executed on Tuesday 16th anniversary of the murders.
According to Sudinfo, she died at Leonard de Vinci Hospital in Montigny-le-Tilleul.
Belgian law allows people to choose to be executed if they feel that they are suffering from uncontrollable psychological and/or physical sufferings that cannot be treated.
