North Korean leader Kim Jong Un took a daughter to a football match celebrating the birthday of his late father.
According to state media, the presence of Mr Kim as well as his “beloved” daughter Kim Ju Ae brought joy and excitement to the match.
This is her sixth appearance in a series that has raised speculation about whether she is being prepared for a leadership position or a successor to her father.
Her last was on February 9, a parade that celebrated the 75th anniversary North Korea’s army. Her father had unveiled a solid-fuel intercontinental missile (ICBM), which he would test in the next months.
She is also featured alongside her father on several new stamps that were released last November to commemorate the success of an ICBM test.
Official Korean Central News Agency described the football match as “significant sports and culture event”. Photos published by North Korea‘s Rodong Sinmun newspaper show Mr. Kim smiling and clapping from their VIP seats.
Kim Yo Jong was Mr Kim’s sister. He was seated in a row behind the match between defense ministry and cabinet staff.
Kim Ju Ae usually joins her dad at events that are directly related to his nuclear ambitions.
She was invited to watch an ICBM flight test during her debut on state media.
Analysts believe this is her father’s way to remind the world that he will not voluntarily give up his arsenal. He clearly views it as the best guarantee of his survival and the continuation of his family’s dynastic rule.
