His agent stated that Christian Atsu, a former Newcastle United footballer, was found dead under the rubble of his home in Turkey.
The Ghanaian football player was misidentified and reported as being hospitalized last week.
Agent Nana Sechere tweeted “It is with heavy hearts that I must inform all well wishers that Christian Atsu’s body has been recovered today. My deepest sympathies go out to his loved ones and family.”
“I want to thank everyone who has supported me and prayed for my well-being.
“I ask that, while we make arrangements, everyone respect the privacy and dignity of the family during this difficult time.”
Atsu was signed for eight years by Premier League clubs such as Everton, Chelsea, Bournemouth and Everton.
After being signed by Chelsea, he was sent to Vitesse on loan.
During loan spells at Stamford Bridge, the winger played for Everton and Bournemouth as well as Newcastle. Atsu made 121 Premier League appearances before he retired.
He signed a one-year contract with Antakya side Hatayspor and moved to Turkey in September.
Murat Uzunmehmet from Turkey, Atsu’s agent, said to reporters that the player was discovered beneath the rubble at his southern Turkish home.
He stated that Atsu’s body was dead and had been found underneath the rubble. More items are being retrieved at the moment. He also found his phone.”
