A shark attack has claimed the life of a teenage girl in Australia.
Police said that the 16-year old was taken from Swan River in Perth with serious injuries.
On the spot, she was declared dead.
Inspector Paul Robinson stated that the victim was with her friends who were on jet skis, and witnessed the “extremely traumatizing incident”.
He stated that a pod of dolphins could have been seen near the shore and the young female had jumped into the water to go swimming nearby.
The officer stated that the victim’s family wasn’t present at the time.
At this time, it is unknown what type of shark was involved in the attack.

The Department of Fisheries in Australia stated that it was unusual for sharks to be so far down the river which flows through Perth and into the Indian Ocean.
This is the first shark attack fatality in the Swan River since January 1923 when a boy of 13 years was killed.
