Ford will be returning to Formula One in 2026 according to the US carmaker.
Although the company was not present at F1 since 2004, it remains the sport’s third-most successful engine manufacturer.
Red Bull, the world champions in energy drinks, made the announcement ahead of their launch in New York.
Ford will be partnering Red Bull Powertrains. The company was established to build future engines for Red Bull’s sister AlphaTauri team.
Formula One will use 100% renewable fuels in 2026 and an increased electrical component under future regulations.

Red Bull bought Ford’s Jaguar-branded Jaguar team in 2004. The current champions are still based in the UK at the same factory.
Stefano Domenicali, chief executive of Formula One, stated that Ford’s announcement today about its participation in the sport’s 2026 season is great news. He added that Ford will join the amazing automotive partners already involved in Formula One.
“Ford is a global brand that has a rich heritage in racing and the automobile world. They see the immense value of our platform for over half a million fans all around the globe.
Their decision to join F1 is also influenced by their commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2030 and to use sustainable fuels starting in 2026.
Ford’s involvement with F1 dates back to 1960s. The DFV (Double Four Valve), an engine built in partnership by British engineering firm Cosworth, had 155 wins at 262 races between 1967-85.
F1 stated that Ford was the third most successful engine manufacturer of F1 history, having played a role in 10 constructors’ championships as well as 13 drivers’ championships.
Friday’s announcement is made after General Motors and Cadillac teamed up with Andretti Autosport, which is looking to be the 11th Formula One team.
F1’s governing body officially began a process on Thursday that could see new teams enter the championship starting in 2025.
