One of the many victims in Sunday’s plane crash in Nepal was a British citizen.
Officials in Nepal initially stated that Ruan Calum Crighton was originally from Ireland, but the UK government has since confirmed his identity.
A spokesperson for the Foreign Office stated that they were supporting the family members of a British man who died in Nepal. They also have contact with the local authorities.
Yeti Airlines’ ATR 72 aircraft was carrying 72 passengers when it crashed in clear weather as it approached Pokhara, a tourist destination.
As rescuers searched for passengers in a river gorge, they faced cloudy weather and poor vision Monday.
Unaccounted for
The crash killed at least 68 people, making it the deadliest accident in 30 years.
Apart from Mr Crighton, there were also victims from India, Russia and South Korea.
Both the black box of the aircraft and the cockpit voice recorder were found in the wreckage.
To determine the cause of the crash, investigators will turn to the data from the recorders.
Gaurav Gurung, a witness to the incident, stated that he saw the aircraft spin violently in the air after it attempted a landing.
He witnessed the plane crash into a canyon after it fell nose-first to its left.
After the crash, the plane caught on fire. Gurung stated that there was smoke all around.
This plane crash is less than one year after the Tara Air accident that claimed 22 lives.
Monday was declared a day for mourning in Nepal
