North Korean leader Kim Jong Un stated that he would like to expand the country’s nuclear arsenal.
Kim stated that there was an urgent need for “overwhelming militarism” to protect the nation’s interests against threats from South Korea and the US at a Workers’ Party meeting.
He stated that the two countries were trying “isolate” and “stifle the North”, with US nuclear assets in South Korea. This is a situation that was “unprecedented by human history”.
According to Korean Central News Agency, Mr Kim stated that the current situation requires an intensified effort to massively increase the military power… to counter the worrying military moves of the US and other hostile troops.
He called South Korea “our undoubted adversary”, and said that it was “hell-bent upon dangerous, imprudent arms buildup.”
He said, “It highlights and necessity of mass-producing tactical nuclear weapons and calls to an exponential increase in the country’s nuclear arsenal.”
“We have declared that we will respond with nuke for nuclearke and all-out confrontation for all-out confrontation.”
The 38-year old called for new intercontinental missiles and the launch of the first military satellite “at the earliest possible date”.
