After being released from Nepali prison, Charles Sobhraj, a convict killer, has arrived in France.
The serial killer “The Serpent”, who is thought to have murdered more than 20 backpackers from western countries during the “hippie trials” through Asia in 1970s and 1980s, has now arrived in Paris.
The French national, who had spent nearly two decades in Nepalese prisons, landed at Charles de Gaulle Airport just after 7 a.m. on 24 December.
Jean-Charles Deniau, author of Moi, le Serpent, claims that Sobhraj was greeted by his lawyer in the terminal building upon his arrival.
Isabelle Coutant Poyre, Sobhraj’s lawyer, stated that “he is well, and he is free.”
She answered when asked by the reporter what her next steps were. “He will file an official complaint against Nepal, because the entire case against him has been fabricated.”
He was described by her as resilient and optimistic.
The 78 year-old was sentenced in Nepal for Laurent Carriere’s murders in 1975. However, he is now suspected of other murders in Thailand, where six women were found murdered on a beach close to Pattaya in 1970s.

Charles Sobhraj, a French murderer, is released from Nepali jail
Because of his advanced age and poor health, the Supreme Court in Nepal ordered Sobhraj’s release, also known as “bikini murderer”.
After serving over 75% of his sentence, he was taken out of Central Jail Kathmandu in a heavily guarded convoy by police to the immigration department.
On the flight from Nepal, he told the French news agency AFP that he wasn’t guilty of killing Bronzich or Carriere.
He was also told that the case against him was based on false documents.
“I have a lot of work to do. “I have to sue a lot people,” Sobhraj was quoted by AFP as saying.
Associates have described Sobhraj previously as a con artist and seducer, and a murderer.
France’s justice ministries did not respond to inquiries about Sobhraj facing criminal charges. For most serious offenses in France, the statute of limitations is 20 years.
