Two-year-old boy survived being swallowed in Uganda by a hippo.
Iga Paul was just a short distance from his home in Kasese, southwest Uganda when he was attacked.
The toddler was grabbed by the neck and swallowed by the hippo.
Chrispas Bagonza, a local man, saw the animal and began throwing stones at it to stop it.
In apparent fear, the hippo spat on the child before returning to the water.
Police thanked Mr Bagonza, who saved the boy’s lives.
Katwe territorial police stated that it took Chrispas Bagonza’s bravery to save the victim. He had stoned the hippo, scared it and caused it to release him from his mouth.
After the 4 December incident, the boy was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries to his hand. He has since fully recovered and is now free to return to Rwenjubu Cell.
He received a vaccination against rabies.
According to police, it was the first attack by a hippo on a child when he strayed from the lake.

They reminded people of the need to be careful.
The force stated that although the hippo was not scared back into the lake by the force, residents living near wildlife sanctuaries or habitats should be aware of the dangers that wild animals pose to their safety.
“Instinctually wild animals perceive humans as a threat. Any interaction can lead to them acting strangely or aggressively.”
Hippos are the most deadly mammal in the world, killing approximately 500 people each year in Africa.
