After a disastrous landing, a pilot was able to safely get out of a military aircraft. This incident was captured on video in North Texas.
After its wheels touched down briefly on the shared runway at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, Fort Worth, the F-35B took an abrupt nosedive and spiralled.
People who watched the plane enter the airport captured video of it slowly falling in a straight line. Smoke appears at the rear and the nose touches the runway. The jet then slows down until it stops.
Special modifications to the F-35B allow it take off and land vertically just like a helicopter.
According to the Pentagon, the aircraft was being flown by a US government pilot at the time of the accident. However, Lockheed Martin had not yet transferred it to the military.
According to Air Force General Pat Ryder, the pilot was safely ejected.
The pilot’s condition is unknown.
The police in the area helped to keep out a growing number of people who stopped along roads or walked past after the plane crashed.
Chris Cook, White Settlement’s chief of police, stated, “You don’t want to receive that call that an aircraft is down.”
“We have a very special place in our community to thank the military. White Settlement is a military community.
Lockheed Martin, which manufactures the plane, stated in a statement that they knew of the crash but were under the impression that the pilot was safe.
It stated that safety is our top priority and that we will use appropriate investigation protocols.
Six people were killed when the failed landing occurred just over a month following collision of two historical military aircraft at Dallas Executive Airport.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, there was no coordination of altitudes during briefings prior to the flight or while the planes are in the air.
