Before Prince William and Kate arrived at the awards ceremony for their environmental prize, he called himself a “stubborn optimist”.
The comments were made by the Prince of Wales in an article published hours prior to the ceremony in Boston, USA.
He stated that he wanted to “supercharge” the impact of his Earthshot Prize finalist to incite a “despairing planet” to see there was a way forward.

The ceremony will feature Billie Eilish, singer as the entertainment line-up. This event celebrates and scales up environmental solutions that repair the planet.
David Beckham, a former England and Manchester United footballer, will present one the five awards. Each category winner will receive PS1m to help develop their project.
The future king wrote in the Huffington Post that the Earthshot Prize wanted to find the best of the finalists. We want to celebrate them and support them so that they not only increase their positive impact, but also show the world that there is hope for the future.
“Dire predictions about the natural world are not the only side of this story, and they don’t have to be our destiny.”
William spoke out about his motivations for the award, saying that he was inspired to do so by President John F Kennedy’s “Moonshot” mission to get a man to the moon.
He stated, “We face an almost impossible challenge: reverse the damage done to the planet and put ourselves on the path towards a more sustainable future.
“Repairing the planet will not be easy. But, it is in our best interests to take action to preserve our natural world.”

The Prince Of Wales had met earlier with US President Joe Biden to have a “warm and friendly discussion” about William’s Earthshot Prize.
Kensington Palace stated that the president was interested in learning more about the awards and the stories of the finalists, when they met at JFK Library.
William thanked the president for coming to London to attend the funeral of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth in September. The pair also shared fond memories of the late monarch.
William and Tatiana Schlossberg visited JFK’s Boston home with their children Jack and Tatiana Schlossberg. Kate visited Harvard University to meet with experts on the early years of development for children.
The Princess of Wales met with staff from The Centre on the Developing Children and stated: “There’s so much amazing work being done and we need to share the learning and science to help children on their path to adulthood.”
The Kennedys were joined by William after the visit for a private luncheon and discussion with representatives of the Founding Partner organizations of the Earthshot Prize.
